Ganesh Himal Trekking Itinerary

Early in the morning, we move northwards from Kathmandu. The scenic drive offers views of beautiful foothills and landscapes as we get o Syabru Besi en route Dhunche. We may see the Ganesh peak as we continue our journey following the river Trishuli. We can see hills, terraces and mountain peaks. You will find narrow roads ahead; however, the panorama is fantastic. After driving for around 7 to 8 hours, we reach the entry point to Langtang valley, that is Syabru Besi; it lies at the convergence point of the rivers Langtang and Bhote Koshi.

We begin the Ganesh Himal Base Camp trek from Syabru Besi. We walk across the curved path westwards to get through Bahun Danda Pass to reach Gatlang. Gatlang is a Tamang settlement which lies on a hillside and has farm fields. The Parvati Kunda is above Gatlang; it is popular among Pilgrims; people come here to observe Janai Purnima at the nearby temple and holy pond. You can savour the remarkable views from here. Also, there are cultural events in Gatlang and Goljung. The Tamang monastery and the Parvatikunda lake here are worth visiting. Overnight stay in Gatlang.

We continue our Ganesh Himal trek as we move across a road. We go up through rhododendron and pine jungle to reach Yuri Kharka before we get to Khurpu Bhanjyang. We descend to Somdang river afterwards; you can spot the Paldor peak, Ganesh Peak and many other mountain peaks here. We walk past several beautiful Tamang villages and a beautiful valley which has the magnificent Chukarma waterfall. This waterfall is famous for zinc mines.

We move uphill across picturesque forest and terrain which includes the fantastic Langtang mountain. We continue along with villages, terraced fields and jungles. You may see the incredible panorama of different peaks. Manaslu, as well as Ganesh Peak range, lie on the north. There is a big meadow here which is suitable for camping. You may know that Ganesh peak region has many herbal plants. The Pangsang Pass is mesmerizingly beautiful and has to offer a fantastic view of the Manaslu, Ganesh Peak, Annapurna ranges (partially) and Langtang Himal ranges. There are not many teahouses or lodges here, so people on Ganesh Himal Trekking carry their tents for camping.

On this day of Ganesh Himal Base Camp Trek, we move down to reach Tipling; it is a big village where there are two ancient Gombas and churches for Protestant and Catholics. You may see houses of tin, stones and wood here. We descend for some time and then go up on this day’s Ganesh Himal Base camp trek. We walk past forest which has rhododendron, bamboo, pine trees along with pristine waterfalls. On the way, you may see Chyamra Danda, Sajyat and Fyanchyat monastery. From Tipling we head to Shertung; you have to cross the Adha Khola using a box bridge. You should pass the Gorkhen Khola on a suspension bridge, and move uphill to reach Shertung.

As we leave Shertung, we descend to reach Mechet Khola, cross it and ascend to get to Hindung. If you wish, you may visit the Hindu temple, namely Tin Kanya. Then, we move to Pasabar Danda in an hour. We climb uphill to get to Kalbarang. We walk across a dense forest. Note that there have been instances of rockfall from the hill due to wild animals so walk with vigilance.
At last, you reach Hindung, which is a large village where mostly Tamangs live. You will find out that people harvest rubies and crystals here and people hunt for yarshagumba. People adorn the town with a prayer flag and mani walls.

We begin the Ganesh Himal Base Camp trek as we ascend to Rajgang Kharka. This Ganesh Himal Trekking trail is pretty flat, and we move through rhododendron forests and witness local vegetation. You could see different kinds of birds, plants and animals here. Rajgang Kharka is a beautiful place; diverse grassland and forests surround it. People bring their livestock to graze here in summer. Overnight stay in Rajgang Kharka.

We get to the main highlight of the Ganesh Himal Trek. We move t Kalo Seto Kunda on this day. We walk uphill on the narrow track. There are levelled track in some places. We follow the path with forests for some hours and get into the part of the trail where there are no trees. There is alpine grass at a higher elevation. You will see frozen lakes in winter.

This day is for exploring Ganesh peak base camp and for relaxing. You can explore the surrounding of the Kalo Seto Kunda; here, you will find two lakes. One lake has black stones, and other has white stones which shine. Therefore it has the name Kalo Seto Kunda; it means black and white lake in Nepali. Moreover, you can savour the sight of Paldor Himal, Ganesh Peak and others.

On this day of the trek, we walk for around 6 to 7 hours to return to Rajgang Kharka. We find alpine grass as we retrace our steps back. We move down to get to Rajgang Kharka and stay here overnight.

We leave Rajgang Kharka and head to Chalise. We walk downhill and leave behind the lush green forest as we move through Hindung. We cross many Tamang villages and reach Chalise where we stay for the night.

We move up on this journey as we get to a ridge. We can relish the panorama of the magnificent Ganesh peak, waterfall, terrace lands and picturesque villages. We move down from the hill and cross the village and terrace farms. We grab lunch at Borang and walk on the criss-cross path to reach Jharlang. Jharlang is a beautiful Tamang village with a unique culture.

We begin the return journey as we ascend on the trekking track. We can enjoy the vista of Manaslu and Ganesh peak on this day. We cross a fantastic jungle, beautiful waterfalls, terrace lands and tiny villages. We can see the Aankhu stream from Darkha village. Darkha is a lovely village where mostly Brahmin people live. We stay in Darkha for the night.

This day marks our final day of Ganesh Himal Trekking. We move down to Darkha Phedi. We follow the river bank till we get to Khahare Bazaar; it is a large market where there are lodges, schools, teahouses and so on. There are beautiful terrace farms here. We get to Khahare Bazaar as we trek for seven to eight hours.

After we eat breakfast, we move from Khahare Bazaar to get to Trishuli Bazaar. We head to Kathmandu from Trishuli Bazaar. We return from the Ganesh Himal Trekking. You see an unpaved road till Dhading Besi, and then the way is better till Kathmandu. This drive will be like a scenic tour where you can see raging rivers, green hills, forests and beautiful villages. In this way, the Ganesh Peak Base Camp trek comes to an end.


How Difficult Is Ganesh Himal Trek?
Ganesh Himal Trek is suitable for anyone who is physically fit and active. This expedition is an adventurous trek which is both challenging and relaxing. This journey has to offer you a remarkable experience to the Himalayas. Each day, the trekkers have to walk for approximately four to seven hours on an average. The time depends on the breaks you take and the destination you have to reach. There are uphill climbs, and you have to descend often on the rocky track. The paths are stone-paved, and some are criss-cross on the Ganesh Peak Base Camp trek.
We do not recommend the Ganesh Himal trek for a physically inactive person. If you exercise well and stay fit, you could do it. The Ganesh Himal Trek feels comfortable and enjoyable if you are someone who works out regularly. It will be easy if you have prior trekking experience, do regular exercise or even do yoga. Note that you can do the Ganesh Himal Base Camp Trek if you have the aptitude to make it happen.

Favourable Time To Go For Ganesh Himal Trek

January to February
Ganesh Himal Base Camp Trek will feel very cold and chilly in early January and remains the same till early February. The temperature goes very down. The days are warm, and you may see the weather is clear, but the nights are freezing. We recommend not doing the Ganesh Himal trek during this time.
March to April
Most people go for this expedition at this time. The weather permits clear skies and incredible views. The temperature increases from Mid March and the mountain peaks will be in their full glory. You can see the rhododendron flowers blooming in different colours. You will fall in love with the surrounding of Ganesh Peak.
May to June
The time from May to June is favourable for the expedition. The monsoon season starts at the end of June so this season of summer as well as spring makes it amazing.
July to August
There is heavy rainfall at this time of the year around the Ganesh Peak region. The difficulty increases for Ganesh Himal trekking at this point. The tracks get slipper and weather is cold. Also, trekking becomes riskier due to wetland.
September to October
During these months, snowfall begins around the Himalaya region. Nights become chiller. The weather starts clearing up from November. The temperature is stable, and the weather is transparent. You can savour the mountain panorama. The temperature drops down from December. And there is heavy snowfall.
