Illam
Ilam is a lovely Nepalese district situated on the east side of Nepal, well known for its verdant tea gardens, awesome hills, and evergreen landscapes. It is a part of province No. 1, IIam has become a major center for the production of quality tea in Nepal and is generally recognized as the Tea Capital of Nepal. Apart from its tea fame, the district is well recognized for its lavish biodiversity, natural heritage, and scene beauty that has inspired and attracted many travellers and intellectuals. Ilam has an area of 1,703 sq. kilometers and its feature is a temperate climate, making it the perfect place for agriculture, especially for tea cultivation. The district sits at an altitude ranging from 140 meters to 3,636 meters above sea level, providing a temperate climate that supports a great range of crops. The geographical diversity of Ilam is beautiful, with dense forests, waterfalls, hills, and rivers, which are further fueled by the district’s proximity to the mountains. The region also sees four separate seasons—summer, spring, monsoon, and winter—each of which has its own importance. In the spring and summer, the hills of Ilam are covered in greenery, while the monsoon rains replenish the tea gardens. Winters, although cold, are mild compared to the high Himalayan regions, making Ilam a great destination year-round.
