Annapurna Base Camp Trek, popular as the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek is loved by trekkers and is famous across the world. This trek gives you the chance to enjoy the sight of the Annapurna massifs; the world’s 10th tallest peak. This journey takes you to the viewpoint of Poonhill where you can savor the picturesque view of towering snowy peaks. You witness the Annapurna I, III and south along with other paks like the mighty Dhaulagiri, Hiunchuli, Nilgiri, Machhapuchhre, Gangapurna, and others.

Along with the view of peaks and snowy glaciers, you walk across lush green hills, forests, and valleys and get to witness diverse wildlife and vegetation. The trail takes you along terraced fields, a mountain panorama, culturally rich Gurung villages, and warm and friendly locals. This is a moderate trekking path that is open all year round but the most favorable time to take this trek is March-May and September-December. The maximum elevation you reach is 4130 meters to the Annapurna Base Camp which is the major highlight of the journey. Thre are no flights on this trek but roundabout tickets for a flight for Kathmandu-Pokhara will be managed if you want.

Itinerary

When you reach Kathmandu at the airport, you will be greeted by one of our representatives who will assist you in the hotel. You can take rest after checking into the hotel room and you can visit our office as well. If you prefer to, you can stroll around the alleys of Thamel which is a popular tourist hub here. In the evening, delicious farewell dinner hosted by us, at Amazing Nepal Trek & Expedition awaits you at an authentic Nepali restaurant. If your flight exceeds the set time, we organize the meeting and dinner the following day. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.

On this day, after a hearty breakfast, we head out for a sightseeing tour to the historically and culturally significant sites like Pashupatinath temple which is revered by Hindu pilgrims, Syambhunath, the popular Buddhist stupa, also called the Monkey temple, Boudhanath another important Buddhist shrine and Kathmandu Durbar Square which helps you get a look into the history, art and culture of Nepal. You can visit the Kumari Ghar too where the Virgin Goddess, Kumari lives. We also have a briefing on the trek and you will be introduced to the trekking staff.

After eating breakfast, we move to Pokhara from Kathmandu on a tourist bus which we board at the tourist bus station. On this scenic drive, we will see the amazing sight of the countryside and we can enjoy natural scenery along the raging Trishuli river. Reach Pokhara in the mid-afternoon and stay overnight.

We start early in the morning after having breakfast; first, we get to Nayapul following a zigzag path and then we start our journey from Birethanti which is a beautiful riverside village located at the confluence of the rivers Bhurungdi and Modi. We walk till Sudam and then ascend the valley side to Tikhedhunga.

We cross bridges and then climb on stone-filled staircases to reach Ulleri village. We can enjoy the panorama of Hiunchuli and Annapurna south.

After we grab breakfast, we move ahead along lush green rhododendron and oak jungle to reach Ghorepani. We walk for a few hours with many breaks to get to Ghorepani. Upper Ghorepani has to offer amazing views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.

We wake up at pre-dawn and walk for forty-five minutes to reach Poonhill (3210 meters) along the forest of rhododendron. From the grassy hill, we see the amazing panoramic view of the towering peaks. We witness Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, Manaslu and other peaks. After enjoying time capturing these moments in photographs, we had back to Ghorepani to at breakfast and then move ahead t reach Tadapani. We walk past many ridges and dense forests of rhododendron and pine here.

We move north to Chiule before we reach Kimrong Khola and cross it on a suspension bridge. We then climb the Modi Khola valley. After eating lunch at Talung, a Gurung village, we head to the Chhomrong village which is a large agricultural settlement here. W can enjoy the views of the Himal Chuli and Annapurna South along with the sight of the upper valley here.

After we eat breakfast, we move down to cross the river, CHhomrong and then climb up to reach Sinuwa. We enter the valley of Modi Khola as we walk through a forest of oak, cane, and rhododendron. We move through Bamboo (2310 meters) village along the bank of the river; this is where we eat lunch. We move across the lush green forest to get to Dobhan and then we cross many avalanche chutes. We finally reach the Himalaya hotel.

The terrain changes to grassland and alpine scrubs as we scale higher elevation. The valley walls appear steeper and there is river raging underneath us.  We visit the Hinku cave before we cross the main avalanche track; this is before we reach Deurali (3230 meters). We savor the amazing views of the Annapurna Sanctuary which slowly appears as w move over a ridge and then ascend to Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700 meters).  We get to Annapurna Base Camp in two hours as we walk across the grassy slopes.

At pre-dawn we cab savor the incredible sights from the glacier rim. We see the towering peaks namely Hiunchuli, Annapurna I, Khangsar Kang, and Annapurna South along with Machhapuchhre, Annapurna III and Gangapurna above us. After we eat breakfast, we get back to Bamboo for an overnight stay.

On this day, our trekking path rises to Sinuwa and Kuldi and then descends to Chhomrong river. We move down on a steep path to the Jhinu Danda where we can relax at the natural hot spring.

We move across scattered tree lines and shrubs to reach Tolka village before we walk on a steep forested path to get to Deurali. We can see an extended view of the towering Annapurna as well as Dhaulagiri from here. We also see the Phewa Lake and the Pokhara valley.

We move down along the trail through lush green forest and farm fields to reach the Pothana village.

This is our last day trekking. On this day we move downhill across open farmland. We get to a ridge in an hour enjoying views of Annapurna and then we move ahead to Dhampus village. We descend to Phedi as we move along paddy fields and scattered hamlets. From Phedi, we return to Pokhara via the drive and stay here overnight.

After a hearty breakfast, we head to the tourist bus station and get back to Kathmandu as we board on a bus. We reach Kathmandu at around 2:30 to 3 pm.

Our representative will transfer you to the international airport in Kathmandu from where you can head back to your native land or another travel adventure.

When cancellation is done more than 10 days prior departure, a refund will be done for service cost based on the company’s terms and conditions and cancellation should be strictly done in writing.

Good to know

Meals and Accommodation

During your time at Kathmandu, you will stay at a tourist standard hotel and you shall stay at a teahouse while trekking. While at teahouses, you will have to share a room. Note that the Annapurna region lies in a remote area so the teahouses are not as luxurious as the hotels in Kathmandu.

While in cities, you will be provided with breakfast only and you will be provided breakfast along with lunch and dinner while trekking. You have breakfast and dinner at a teahouse and lunch when on the way while you are trekking. You will not have many options for food items but the limited choices are healthy and hygienic. These include the Nepali daal bhaat, bread, porridge, and Tibetan soup.

Am I Fit For This Trek?

Despite being a moderate trek, this trek may not be suitable for elderly people and children because it is a long trekking journey. Also, there is a probability of getting altitude sickness due to thin air here. It is better to take this trek if you have experience and you have training in mountain climbing. Will power and courage are also important for this journey. We do have days separated for acclimatization at certain places and only five to six hours is allotted to each day. We at Amazing Nepal request you to have your health and fitness checked before you take this trek to stay safe.

Tour Briefing

You will be provided with a briefing on this trek; you will receive an information file and will be introduced to the trekking leader.

Trekking Members:

  • We provide you with a licensed and experienced trekking guide with adequate knowledge of responsible and eco-friendly tourism.
  • We provide you with an assistant guide who will help you with any situation
  • We provide you with a porter (one for two clients); s/he will carry not more than twenty-five kilograms.
  • We provide insurance for our trekking crew.

Certificate

We provide an ANTE adventure certificate to you when the trek is completed.

Group Size

The trek group size can include two to ten members. You can write to us if you want solo travel arranged for you to ABC so we can arrange according to your needs. Also, please let us know if your group has more than ten individuals so we can plan accordingly and design our itinerary.

Acclimatization Days

Given that the Annapurna Base Camp trek is technical, it can get difficult so giving importance to the technical aspects of this trek, we design an itinerary that provides adequate time for acclimatization. We realize the trekking points at which you will need to rest so we have designed the itinerary accordingly. In situations where you go through altitude sickness, our crews who understand how to deal with this can help you.

Right Response to Altitude Sickness

  • Consult your doctor
  • Bring along Diamox (Acetazolamide)
  • Inform the trek members if you get uncomfortable
  • Walk-in groups so you can assist one another in need

Travel Insurance

We highly recommend you to get travel insurance for your trek. ABC trek is a challenging trekking journey so we want you to be careful about any contingencies. There may arise situations where you will require helicopter evacuation or even get the tour canceled. You could be injured or have your baggage stolen and so on.

Fees And Permits

You will be charged some fees by the local body of government when you enter the major World Heritage Sites/National Parks/Conservation Areas/Restricted Areas. The price mentioned above covers all these entrance fees.
