Everest Base Camp trek is an excellent trekking destination that most of the trekkers around the world dream to conquer. This is probably one of the most sought treks across the globe since this journey takes you to the bottom of the tallest peak in the world. The mighty Everest is situated in the Maha Langur Himal sub-range in the lap of the Himalayas. It is at the height of 8848 meters and is located at the border of China and Nepal.

Mt. Everest is widely called Sagarmatha in Nepalese language and as Chomolungma in Tibetan dialect. The Everest Base Camp trek takes you to the land of the Sherpas where you discover the Himalayan culture and lifestyle; you get the chance to see the mountainous vegetation and wildlife and diverse landscape on this journey. You can observe the Buddhist culture closely as you explore the Mani walls, age-old monasteries, and stone stupas. The highest point of this trek is at Kala Patthar at the height of 5545 meters which offers amazing views of the Lhotse, Changtse, Nuptse, Everest along with the Khumbu glacier.

Itinerary

As you reach Kathmandu airport, you will be received by our representative from Sherpa Expedition and Trekking and you will be escorted to the hotel of your stay and you will also be provided the briefing on the trek afterward; including information on the trekking route, food, lodge and so on. You can clear your confusions at the meeting. A welcome dinner awaits you in the evening.

We take an early morning flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. On this fifty minutes’ scenic flight, we enjoy the scenic natural beauty of Nepal including the changing landscape, hills, mountains, and valleys. You will be introduced to your porter as you reach Lukla airport. She/he will assist you with your baggage.

The trekking journey starts and it is going to be for three hours as we head to Phakding. On this day, we have an easy, gradual walk. We first pass the Kani (ceremonial gatehouse) and then move down as we walk past the Kyangma village and then get to the Cheplung village. We move down across a community forest along the river, Dudh Koshi. We cross the suspension bridge to get to Ghat which will be a short climb towards the ridge. We walk past a school and Mani walls, prayer wheels as well as Chortens. We get to the Chhuthawa hamlet After a short walk, we finally get to Phakding where we stay for the night at a mountain lodge.

We walk across bridges above the river, Dudh Koshi as we pass many intriguing villages including Monjo, Bhenkar and Toc Toc. We arrive at the entry point of the famous Sagarmatha National Park.  We walk along the river for a few hours and then after crossing the final bridge, we climb uphill to reach the famous Namche Bazaar.

This day is separated for acclimatization because we have already scaled high altitude and we need to adjust to the increasing elevation. We are supposed to stay active even if this a rest day for acclimatization. We have the choice to hike till Tham or visit Khunde or just explore the surrounding of Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar has restaurants, bakery, shops, ATMs, cyber cafes, eventful market place, and even government offices. We can acclimatize better if we trek at least a few hundred feet. We can visit the Tourist Visitor center to observe the things associated with the first Everest Ascenders, the culture of the Sherpas and various flora and fauna present in this region.

On this day, we walk across the raging glacial water of Dudh Koshi enjoying the amazing views of the towering peaks. We will have reach up to an altitude of 3860 meters as w step on Tengboche. We will see amazing ornate wall hangings, musical instruments of the Lamas and sculpture of Buddha which is 20 foot. We can also go observe the morning prayer depending on how our trekking journey goes.

The altitude gets higher as we get to Di Dingboche. Make sure you do not involve in too much activity. Moving up from Pangboche will do just fine. We head to the Somare village (4010 meters) and then go to Orsho. We take the left trail to rah Pheriche and then cross a bridge before we reach Dingboche (4410 meters) where we stay overnight.

This is our second acclimatization day. On this day, we move up the valley to get to Chhukung (4730 meters) and move further to Island Peak (Imjatse), We can go to the Nagkartshang Gompa which will take around two to three hours. Or, we can go to Pheriche for an HRA lecture on altitude sickness. Chhukung is amidst beautiful peaks like the Lhotse, Taboche and the wall of Nuptse. Ama Dablam and Amphu Laptsa pass are also there. Chhukung has many lodges and is a famous point for people climbing the Island peak. If you are adequately acclimatized you can go up to the peak of Chhukung to savor the panorama of Makalu.

After a hearty breakfast, we walk to Dugla; this is going to be an easy, gradual walk. We walk across the steep path of the Khumbu glacier. We climb up the Chupki Lhara after we cross the boulder-strewn slopes. We then move to the moraine of the Khumbu glacier and witness the Lingtren, Khumbutse, Pumori along with the Mahalangur Himal. Overnight stay at Lobuche.

We move ahead to the Everest Base Camp as we move along the Gorak Shep Lake. We move ahead and the path can be confusing so make sure you follow your trekking guide properly. The walk is going to get strenuous as you move up because of the rise in altitude. We walk across the rocky path, streams, and moraines to get to EBC. We will see the colorful tents of the other mountaineers. We can see Khumbutse, Pumori, and Nuptse. We return to Gorak Shep where we will stay overnight.

On this day, we have an early morning hike to the viewpoint of Kala Patthar. Here, we savor the view of the towering Khumbutse, Lingtren, and Changtse along with the mighty Everest. We can enjoy the moment and capture them in photographs. We get back to Lobuche after enjoying the magnificent panorama. Overnight stay at Pangboche.

We head back to Namche Bazaar as we move down to the bank of the river Imja and through the lush green forest to reach Tengboche. We have lunch in Tengboche and move along the hillside covered by the juniper and rhododendron forests. As we cross the bridge above the river, Dudh Koshi we descend through the forest of pines before we get to Sansa. We may spot snow leopards, mountain goats, pheasants and so on. We walk past a Chorten to get to the army camp located in Namche Bazaar. Overnight stay at Namche Bazaar.

This is the final day of our trekking journey as we head back to Lukla which was also the beginning point of our trek. We can spend the time in Lula by reflecting on our trek as a team and stroll around Lukla in the afternoon. We will celebrate the successful completion of our trek with some drinks and dance in the evening.

On this day, we board on the flight to Kathmandu. You can take rest when you reach Kathmandu or you can involve in individual activities like shopping or roaming around here.  If you prefer to explore the places in Kathmandu, we can provide you with an experienced guide to accompany you.  The guide can help you with sightseeing tours or shopping. A tasty farewell dinner awaits you in the evening to celebrate the accomplishment.

This day marks the end of your exhilarating adventure. You can exchange emails with your fellow travelers and share photographs. Our representative from Sherpa Expedition and Trekking will assist you till airport before the scheduled flight and you can head back to your native land or your next travel destination from there.

Good to know

Trekking in Nepal is an exceptional kind in itself since the culture as well as the surrounding is gorgeous. Here are some key facts that you will need for trekking in the Himalayan land of Nepal listed as do’s and don’ts as follows.

Dos

  • Greet and smile to the locals by saying “Namaste” or “Tashidelek”
  • You have to be well conscious to make yourself either to walk in a group as well as sustaining distance from the individuals you see walking either behindhand or in forward-facing of you.
  • If you are arranging or trying something new during the trek make sure you consult your guide beforehand who will provide you with the right amount of information about what you should consider.
  • Communicate with the guide about the things you might need next day as you can pack it in your pouch while rest is supported by the porter for your convenience.
  • Make sure you donate at the donation boxes at monasteries around the trekking zone as they do not have ticket charges for the visitors around this trek.
  • If you sense uneasy and uncomfortable mainly while trekking, make sure you inform your guide while ascending higher altitude as your health is the most important factor while ascending higher altitude.

Don’ts

  • Make sure you esteem the local culture and beliefs although it is uneasy for you to believe it and do not criticize their beliefs and values
  • Without prior permission of the local people in the trek, do not take pictures of the local people.
  • Do not sense clumsiness when folks gaze at you; they are just interested in tourists and have no ill intents.
  • Do not expect profligate services round the trekking zone; basic facilities can only be provided given the geographical complications.
  • Make sure you do not damage the vegetations and faunas during the trek; be accountable about the environment around you.
  • Make sure you do not be generous by providing money to people; such an act will only enhance children and beggars because it may upsurge them to beg more from visitors around the trek.

Note About Itineraries

When traveling with us, we will be trying strictly to follow on the schedule of the itinerary while they are only to be changed if any external events occur which are out of our control. External factors can be caused while traveling such as a change in weather, campsite availability, and group’s health condition as well. Please remember that this journey is complex logistically so adjustments may have to be made observing the circumstances. Our trekking leader or guide will orient you to the next day’s plan each evening and note that their rational judgment has been the key to the successful trips offered by us at to prosper our company till date. Please note that these modifications are made to ensure maximum safety and for successful completion of the trekking journey as the safety of the visitors is the main importance while you travel with us.
