Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a famous trekking destination in the Annapurna region and it is popular as the “Annapurna panoramic trek”. This trekking journey takes less time and relatively less effort compared to other treks around the Annapurna region. This trek is suitable for people who are short of time and also the veteran as well as novice trekkers. On this trek, you can meet people of the ethnic groups like Gurung and the Magar people.

This trail takes you along the Modi Khola valley till you get to Tikhedhunga. You walk across lush green rhododendron forest to get to Ghorepani as you pass the hills of Ulleri. From Ghorepani, you take a short, early morning hike till Poonhill to savor the view of the amazing sunrise and the glistening mountain peaks on the backdrop. You can relish the sight of the Dhaulagiri (8167 meters), Dhampus, Annapurna South (8091 meters), Nilgiri (2637 meters), Machhapuchhre or Fishtail (6993 meters), Tukuche (6920 meters) along with Bhara Sikhar. You can also explore the beautiful Gurung village of Ghandruk on this trek and study their rich culture and unique lifestyle.

Itinerary

Upon your arrival at the airport in Kathmandu, you will be received by our representative from Sherpa Expedition and trekking and you will be transferred to your hotel. You will be given the briefing on the trekking journey including the information on the food, lodging, dos and don’ts of the trek.  Later in the evening, you will have dinner with the group.

On this day, we head to Pokhara from Kathmandu via private vehicle or tourist coach based on the group size. Note that you also have the choice to fly to Pokhara which will take just thirty minutes. You will be escorted to the hotel when you reach Pokhara. In the free time during the afternoon you can go stroll around the lakeside.

We head to Tikhedhunga via a drive from Pokhara. We move across the beautiful village of Lumle and get to Nayapul (1050 meters). We start our trek to Poonhill from Nayapul and we get to Birethandi within half an hour. We get our permits checked at the check post here. We walk along the Modi Khola and finally reach Tikhedhunga in three or four hours.&

We move up a steep path for two hours to get to Ulleri (2070 meters). We walk past Banthanti, a Magar village where we can savor the amazing views of the Hiunchuli (6441 meters), Machhapuchhre (6997 meters), along with the Annapurna south (7219 meters). We walk across the beautiful forest of rhododendron and then pass the bridge above a stream to reach Ghorepani village. We can enjoy the sight of the Hiunchuli, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, and Annapurna I along with other peaks from here.

On this day, we make our way to the viewpoint of Poonhill so we start early. Our morning hike takes us to Poonhill viewpoint from where we witness the beautiful sunrise and the sun rays falling on the towering peaks like Annapurna I, III, IV and South, Nilgiri (6940 meters), Varaha Shikhar (7847 meters), Tukuche (6920 meters), Lamjung Himal (6931 meters), Dhaulagiri (8167 meters), and so on. We return to the Ghorepani hotel to grab breakfast and then head to Tadapani along the Deurali ridge. We finally reach Tadapani village and stay here overnight.

We have a gradual walk along the rhododendron and oak forest for three hours on this day to reach Ghandruk. Ghandruk is a big Gurung village where we can savor the view of the Hiunchuli, Annapurna III, Annapurna South, Gangapurna, Machhapuchhre, and other peaks.  This village has a cultural museum, Buddhist monastery and has cultural dance shows. Overnight stay at a teahouse in Ghandruk.

This is the final day of our trekking journey because we head back to Pokhara on this day. We move up following the teahouses in Ghandruk village and then move along terrace fields. We follow the Modi river and then reach Birethandi in some hours. We drive from Birethandi to Pokhara.

We head back to Kathmandu by tourist bus or private vehicle based on the size of our group. You will be transferred to the hotel of your stay once you reach Kathmandu. Not that you have the option to fly to Kathmandu in a thirty minutes’ scenic flight.

This day marks your final day in the land of the Himalayas.  You will be transferred to the international airport in Kathmandu based on the time of your flight by our representative from Sherpa Expedition and trekking.  You will then return to your native country or your next travel destination.

Best Time For Trekking Ghorepani Poon Hill

The popular Ghorepani-Poonhill trek is an amazing trekking journey where you can savor the amazing sunrise and sunset panorama. This trekking journey is beautiful and this trek is convenient and easy in the months with no rainfall so the favorable time to set off this is September to November and March to May. The temperature is moderate and the weather permits amazing views with clear skies.

Poonhill Sunrise

The main highlight of this trekking journey is the sunrise at Poonhill over the towering snow-clad mountains. You will have to wake up at around five in the morning to witness the amazing sunrise from the Poonhill viewpoint. You will be stunned by the sight of the sun rays falling on the glistening mountain peaks.
