Gokyo valley is an ideal choice for those of you who would love to trek along the solitary paths of the Everest region away from the chaos of the city life savoring the scenic natural beauty.  Gokyo Valley trek is the second most loved destination around Everest zone which has to offer a wonderful journey around the Everest Base camp with jaw-dropping beauty. 

The natural surrounding you get to see in the Gokyo trek is incredible as it moves across different landscapes, forests, villages, and people. Whether you are a nature lover or a person keep about unique Himalaya culture, you are going to enjoy every bit of this experience because it has everything to offer.  The EBC trail is followed till the place named Sanasa and it follows the Dudh Koshi river and then we also get to witness the famous Ngozumpa glacier.  You get the opportunity to visit the Gokyo village along with the marvelous Gokyo Ri where you can enjoy the majestic views of the mighty Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu along with the lakes namely Longpongma, Dudh Pokhari, and Tanjung Tso.

Itinerary

You will be received at the airport by our representative from Sherpa Expedition and Trekking and you will be transferred to your hotel. You will be provided with a briefing on the travel journey afterward. Overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu.

We get on the flight to Lukla on this day which will take us around thirty minutes to reach there. This scenic flight has to offer amazing views of the landscapes of Nepal from Kathmandu to Lukla.  We get to observe the scenic natural beauty of Nepal in all its essence.  We grab breakfast when we reach Lukla and start our trekking journey. We head to Phakding; we rach there in around three hours.  Overnight stay at a guesthouse in Phakding.

We resume our trekking journey and walk along the Dudh Koshi River as we move up the Himalayan Deodar and pine jungle to reach the destination for the day namely Namche Bazaar.  Namche village remains the trading zone for Tibetan and Nepalese traders for bartering dried meat, salt, and other items. Overnight stay in Namche Bazaar.

This day has been separated for acclimatizing since we will be scaling higher altitude from now on.  We go trek to the nearby villages namely Khude and Khumjung. There are many bakery shops at Khumjung.  We hike till Everest View Hotel where we can savor the views of the snow-clad peaks including the mighty Everest. This will take around 5 hours after which we retrace our steps back to Namche. Overnight stay at a guesthouse in Namche Bazaar.

We start our trekking journey on this day as we move across juniper, rhododendron and coniferous forests. If we are trekking in the spring season, we can see beautiful rhododendrons blooming along with yaks grazing on summer settlements.  We get to Dole within five hours. Overnight stay in Dole.

On this day, our path gets strenuous as we move along dense forest and the altitude rises and the settlements get sparse.  We ascend up the valley and reach Machhermo which is a beautiful, tiny village around the Khumbu zone.  Overnight stay at Machhermo.

We ascend up and reach the valley of Gokyo which is the main highlight of our trek. Gokyo is a tiny settlement at the bottom of the Gokyo peak.  We can witness the Ngozumpa glacier and the five mountains which are taller than 8000 meters namely, the Mt. Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Kanchenjunga. Overnight stay in a guesthouse.

On this day, we head to Gokyo Ri which is a mountain peak in the Everest region. It is at a height of 5357 meters. This peak has to offer the amazing views of many spectacular peaks along with the mighty Everest. We get back to Machhermo after having a great time at Gokyo Ri. Overnight stay at Machhermo in a guesthouse.

On this day, we retrace our steps back to Namche Bazaar from Machhermo. Today we will have an easy, gradual walk as we get into the Sherpa settlement. Overnight stay at Namche Bazaar.

We head downhill to reach Lukla; this will take around seven hours. We spend our time in Lukla on this day and then catch the flight to Kathmandu on the following day.

We board on the flight to Kathmandu early in the morning. You will b transferred to the hotel when w reach Kathmandu. You can take some time to rest. Later, you can go explore the places around Kathmandu or go souvenir shopping. Our guides can assist you in this. A tasty farewell dinner awaits you in the evening to celebrate the successful completion of the adventurous trekking journey. Overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu.

This day marks the end of your adventure. You can exchange mail ids and organize the trek pictures. Our representative from Sherpa Expeditions and Trekking will assist you in going to the airport. You will be transferred to the hotel around three hours prior to the flight. You will have enough time to plan for your next adventure in Nepal on your way back home.

Good to know

Given that you are hiking in a region with a diverse culture and environment, there is some consideration for this trekking journey.

Dos

  • Greet and smile to the locals by saying “Namaste” or “Tashidelek”
  • Be well conscious to make yourself either to walk in the group as well as maintaining distance from the people you see walking either behind or in front of you.
  • If you are scheduling or trying something innovative during the trek make sure you consult your guide beforehand.
  • Communicate with the guide about the things you might need next day as you can pack it in your pouch while rest is supported by the porter for your suitability.
  • Contributing to the donation boxes at monasteries around the trekking zone shall be beneficial for the monasteries as they do not ticket for the visitors around this trek.
  • While you may feel uneasy and uncomfortable make sure you notify your guide while ascending higher altitude as your health is the most significant factor while ascending higher altitude.

Don’ts

  • Make sure you esteem the local culture and beliefs although it can be uncomfortable for you to believe it and remember not to criticize their beliefs and values.
  • Without prior approval of the local people in the trek, do not take images of the local people.
  • Do not sense inelegance when folks gaze at you; they are just interested in visitors and have no ill intents.
  • Do not expect profligate facilities round the trekking zone; basic accommodations can only be provided given the geographical hitches.
  • Make sure you do not damage the floras and faunas during the trek; be responsible about the environment around you.
  • Do not be generous by providing money to folks; such an act will only boost children and beggars because it may surge them to beg more from companions around the trek.
