Tsum Valley which is also popular as the “Hidden Valley” is one of the most captivating tourist spots for trekking in Nepal. Tsum Valley Trekking journey vaunts the spectacular sights of the Himal CHuli, Baudha Himal Sirangi Himal and Ganesh Himal around it. The two remote villages are Chhekmper which is Upper Tsum and the lower Tsum is Chumling. This area is unspoiled by the mass urbanization and is away from the hustle and bustle of the city life.

You will be absolutely amazed by the sight of the remoteness present in this region along with the presence of the ancient ruins. Tsum valley is acquainted with Tibet when it comes to its culture and lifestyle. Most people here have a Tibetan origin and even speak the distinct dialect. This region has many Buddhist followers. The popular Kimo Lung which is a pilgrimage around the central Tans Himalaya circuit is famous for the centers of mediation as well as learning. You will enjoy the diverse terrains, lifestyle as well as the culture you get to explore in this trekking journey.

Itinerary

After the completion of the formalities at the airport after you arrive there, you will be transferred to your hotel by our representative who will accompany you.  Based on the time left, we can stroll around Thamel and even prepare for the trekking journey there. You will be provided with the trek briefing and you will be welcome to Nepal with a tasty welcome dinner. Overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu.

On this day, we head to Gorkha from Kathmandu via bus or private vehicle; this will take around six to seven hours. We get lunch on the way and take rest. Overnight stay at Arughat.

Depending on the condition of the road, we move to Soti Khola from Arughat. Before the massive earthquake, trekkers moved to Soti Khola by bus, stopped overnight and started the trek the following day.

We walk along the mule track and then ascend up before we drop down to Lapubesi (880 meters). We walk along Nauli Khola and then cross a suspension bridge to continue along Budhi Gandaki river to reach the Machha Khola (900 meters). Overnight stay at the Kashi Gaun.

On this day, we walk along the river to reach Khorlabesi and the hot spring in Tatopani (930 meters). We move along the river Budhi Gandaki to reach Doban, Yara Bagar, and Thulo Dunga.

We cross several suspension bridges to get to the entry point of the Manaslu Conservation Area and we reach Jagat (1410 meters). Permits are checked in the conservation area office which resides here. In case our trek is rerouted, we may take a high path eastwards where we descend down to get to the old path close to Dobhan.

We ascend up to the rocky path to reach Salleri and then we move down to Sirdibas and move towards Ghatta Khola. We move up to Philim village and then continue along a lush green forest to reach Chisapani. Overnight stay at a lodge or teahouse.

After we reach the Ekle Bhatti, we cross a gorge and then walk across a forest enjoying the sight of pristine waterfalls and then move down to the path to Tsum valley.

We walk pass green rhododendron forests and the catch the sight of amazing Himalchuli peak (7893 meters) and Boudha peak from the place named Lokpa. We cross Lokpa and move down to Lungwa river and get to Gumlung. We cross the Siyar Khola and reach Chumling where we savor the sight of Shiring peak. We can visit the ancient CHumling Gompa here. Overnight stay at a teahouse or lodge.

First, we cross a suspension bridge and relish the view of the Ganesh Himal. W walk past the Rainjam as we move to Seru Khola. We then reach Gho village and then get to Tsum in two hours. W finally reach Chhokangparo. If the weather allows, we will be awestruck by the amazing views of Ganesh Himal (7140 meters) and Himalchuli (7893 meters).  Overnight stay at a lodge or teahouse.

On this day, we cross the Rachn Gompa and even visit the Shir Khola. W walk through the villages Pangdun and Phurbe. We leave the ancient stupa od Buddha behind and clumb up and pass a bridge to reach the Nile. Overnight stay at a teahouse or lodge.

We reach closer to the border of Tibet. We walk westwards across the Tibetan terrain and climb the Gompa and go visit the sacred monastery. We pay a visit to the Dhephu Doma Gompa as well.  Overnight stay at the lodge or teahouse.

After a hearty breakfast, we hike till Ganesh Himal Base Camp and enjoy the panorama of Ganesh Himal. We retrace our steps back to Mu Gompa to stay there overnight.

We continue along the trekking path enjoying the scenery of the surrounding and then move down to Chumling. We trek across the Tsum valley and get to Chumling where we stay overnight.

We move to Lokpa and walk ahead enjoying the sight of the Samba Falls. We finally get to Philim in around six or seven hours and then stay there overnight.

We walk past Soti Khola on this day. We move down o the river and then go around Machha Khola village. We follow the path along the Budhi Gandaki river and then reach Labubesi. We walk across the ridge which lies above the river, Budhi Gandaki. W walk past Sal forests and reach Soti Khola as we cross a bridge.

We first move up a ridge and descend down enjoying the view of pristine waterfalls. We leave the valley of Budhi Gandaki. We first reach the Sante Bazaar and then walk across the Maltar forest. We finally reach Arughat. We rest for a while and drive to Kathmandu which is going to take around three hours. A tasty farewell dinner awaits you in the evening. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

This day marks the completion of our Tsum valley adventure. You will be transferred to the international airport in Kathmandu by our representative around three hours before the flight. You will be enough time to plan your next travel destination on the way back.  Thank you for traveling with us.

Good to know

Given that you are hiking in a region with a diverse culture and environment, there is some consideration you have to seek for this trekking journey.

Dos

  • Smile and greet the locals by saying the phrase “Namaste” or “Tashidelek”
  • Maintain a distance from people you see walking in front or behind you and walk with a group in the trek.
  • Please refer to your guide if you are planning on trying something new while trekking
  • Interconnect with the guide about the gears you might need next day as you can pack it in your pouch while rest is maintained by the porter for your convenience.
  • Make sure you donate at the donation boxes at monasteries around the trekking zone as they do not have ticket charges for the visitors around this trek.
  • If you feel uncomfortable and rough make sure you notify your guide while ascending higher altitude as your well-being is the most significant factor while ascending higher altitude.

Don’ts

  • While this trek is rich in culture and beliefs, some may be uncomfortable for you to handle. Please do not disapprove the local culture and beliefs even though you are uncomfortable with it.
  • Ask the consensus of the local people while taking pictures of them.
  • Folks here are welcoming in nature; Do not feel vigilant when individuals stare at you; they are just concerned in visitors and have no ill purposes.
  • Spendthrift facilities are tough to find out throughout the trek while basic services can only be provided seeking the difficulty of the geographical regions you are located at.
  • Destructing floras and faunas along the trek should be avoidable at any cost as you should be responsible for the environment.
  • Donating money to people will inspire children and beggars to have the insight to beg more from the visitors which is why such an act should be totally discouraged.
