Trip Overview
The Annapurna Circuit Trek is amongst the popular trekking destination in Nepal and has been listed as the best treks in the world. The trek around the Annapurna Circuit offers a spectacular trekking experience during which you cross the world’s highest mountain pass – Thorong La Pass (5,416 m).
The trail connects the Annapurna region (Manang) to the Mustang region while providing closure to the finest cultural destinations of the journey. Previously the walk started from an altitude of 600m which led into the thick tropical forests passing a few Hindu villages and then into Tibetan Buddhists ones. However with the addition of roads the trail has been shortened and has an easy access but the thrill and experience hasn’t been compromised.
The total distance covered by the Annapurna Circuit Trek is 160-230km (100-145 miles).
The trek starts from the lower Annapurna region following the Marshyangdi River. The valley is full of beautiful natural waterfalls, streams, and sub-tropical forests which will leave the trekkers in awe. The path then leads you through the Manang region where you’ll witness the traditional Tibetan Buddhist villages.
The real thrill begins once we enter Phedi after passing vast expanses of cattle grazing pastures. Passing the Thorong La Pass is like the cherry in the pie, especially when you descend down the slippery rocky slope. While on the pass you can see the snopcapped peaks of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Mt. Annapurna I (8,091m), Mt. Manaslu (8,156m), Mt. Annapurna II, Mt. Annapurna III, Annapurna South, Machhapuchre (6,993m), Nilgiri, Himchuli, Lamjung Himal, Tukuche peak, and Tilicho peak.
After Thorong La pass the trail descends to Muktinath Temple, which is a religious site for both Hindus and Buddhists. The trek then leads through Kali Gandaki gorge, and finally ends in Nayapul after passing the Ghorepani Poon Hill.
